iPhone and Dating Success: Podcast with Rhoda Sommer
How does the type of phone you own impact dating success? A recent study from the team at comparemymobile.com found that the difference between finding love and being left on the shelf could come down to the phone you have. Millennials in major cities in Canada, the U.K. and the USA preferred profile pictures that showed the person with an iPhone rather than any other type of cellphone. So do an iPhone and dating success go hand in hand? Maybe so!
iPhone and Dating Success
Well, before we look more closely at that study, here’s an excerpt from my interview with Rhoda Sommer where we dive into the pros and cons of cellphones and finding love!
Rhoda: Dating is a lot of work! It is all too easy to end up discouraged and want to give up because someone else has once again not followed through and just disappeared. I believe staying curious instead of cynical is really important for success. Staying open to possibilities is crucial instead of crossing your arms across your chest in the comfort of skepticism.
Today I’ve invited Dr. Diana Kirschner, PBS Love Expert & psychologist to share with my audience with her expert advice. Her bestseller is Love in 90 Days. Through her acclaimed coaching team, Dr. Diana has helped many thousands all over the world to create self-confidence, dating success, and lasting relationships.
iPhone and Dating Success: How Does the Cellphone Impact Dating & Relationships?
Rhoda: In my mind, the use of cellphones to attract a partner can lead to avoiding honest, authentic conversation. It is a wonder anybody gets relationship success in our current culture of ghosting someone so easily.
Dr. Diana: The phone is something that has a tremendous positive impact and it also can have a tremendous negative effect. Now, the negative impact is that you get off the hook with relating to people and seeing them face to face, for the most part. Unless you’re doing Zoom, Skype or something like that. But there is a distance in your interactions. And it’s easier to act without integrity. So that’s why you see the rise of ghosting. Where people get together & they’re dating & they’re in love & they love you & it’s so incredible & wonderful, & bingo! They disappear completely without a word! It’s shocking & upsetting.
iPhone and Dating Success: The Feast of Possibilities
Dr. Diana: So there is also a tremendous upside, which is that right there in your phone, you can have so many choices in terms of finding love. Especially with the iPhone there are so many dating apps you can have. It’s like a feast. It’s a feast of possibilities. If you know what you’re doing, the phone can provide a lot of interesting connections. In fact, according to the study I cited above, it turns out that people with iPhones in their profile shots were 76 percent more likely to appear attractive and swipe-worthy to others on dating apps.
BTW, I have no affiliation with Apple or its products.
