Online dating–the news is good & getting better!

by Dr. Diana Kirschner on September 22, 2008

Well it happened. It used to be that most people met their lifetime partners at parties, at work, or by being introduced through their network of family, co-workers and friends. But a recent poll by Harris Interactive shows that your chances of this kind of face-to-face falling-in-love shifted in 2007. Harris did an interactive online survey of 10,000 people who married in the U.S. during an 18 month period in 2006 and 2007. They found that more singles over 45 found love online rather than off-line during that period! So online dating is good and getting better!!

Tens of thousands of people have married someone they met online. Another Harris study showed that on average 236 couples marry each and every day who met on eharmony. Technology is opening the floodgates of new love for singles. My suggestion: use it to maximum effectiveness by working two different sites–a larger well-established one like eharmony.com or Yahoo! Personals and a small niche one, like Jdate.com or greensingles.com.

Here’s to more love!

First off let me say that I am the webmaster of a popular online dating site that extolls the virtues of online dating. That said, I believe you can make online dating a successful and rewarding experience if you approach it the right way and have a good attitude about it. Just like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. If you take the time to research the various internet dating sites, assess which ones have the features that are useful to you and have dating profiles from people who may be compatible with you, and you spend the time to create an interesting and informative profile – and are clear about what your expectations are and the type of person you would like to meet – you very well may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome.

I have found that if you give it a try you could be pleasantly surprised at what happens. Yes, you will meet some folks who are not what you want, but you can meet some great ones too. I have had students who met wealthy guys, rappers, writers, social workers, and many other wonderful people on line!
Wishing you love,

Frankly speaking I’m against getting acquainted through the Internet. Still, I know a lot of people for whom this form of communicating has become decisive and they have met their loving people.
