Dating Advice and Wearing Red

by Dr. Diana Kirschner on November 5, 2009

Howdy!

Biology has it’s own logic, that’s for sure!  Here’s a video dating blog on the latest research on colors and attracting men.  In a series of studies, women shown wearing red were rated as significantly more desirable by men than the same women wearing other colors.  While this amorous effect may be societal conditioning, it’s also clear that there are also biological roots at work.  It’s no accident then, that red hearts and roses are the symbols of love and Valentine’s Day.  Check out the video dating blog and let me know what you think.

Well, I finally got to read your comment. First, I entirely disagree that all men are idiots.
Also, I never meant to imply that women should not seek their own dreams and happiness–quite the contrary! If you do not work on creating your own happiness, nothing will do it for you! And it is certainly possible to be very very happy as a single!!!

Now, as to the research–yes a few recent studies have shown that singles can be very happy. But there are many more studies that show that marital status is predictive of well-being (health, happiness and overall life satisfaction). Now a recent study at Southern Illinois U by Wienke, C. & Hill, G.J. assessed 6,734 married heterosexual couples, 282 partnered gay and lesbian couples and 750 single heterosexuals and 59 single gays and lesbians. After controlling for age, education, income and other variables, individuals who were in a relationship tended to be happier than those who were single, and this was consistent across gender. Among heterosexuals, married individuals reported the highest levels of happiness followed by cohabiters and dating individuals. Also, partnered gay and lesbian couples reported the most happiness and health, with all others reporting lower levels of happiness and health. The researchers concluded that romantic relationships, regardless of sexual orientation are good for people’s overal well-being.

Of course, research is one thing and an individual’s life is another. It is great that you are happy in your life!

Love the monkey’s butt comment!! God know’s what colours men’s butts are but one usually can’t tell as they are too busy scratching them!! Idiots all….So why are we all spending so much time and energy looking for them, changing ourselves for them, suffering through them….etc…why don’t we all just accept that they are monkey’s butts and move on to just loving ourselves. This is all a pitiful waste of time ladies….just get a great bunch of intelligent girlfriends, go back to school, fill your life and stop focusing on men. Create your own life and just accept that men have slim to no relational skills. Sorry but it is a fact and you can look for 90 years if you want to take that amount of time…for me, I have chosen to focus my energies elsewhere and have been MUCH happier since. Remember….women are not as happy in marriage. Studies repeatedly reveal, contrary to Kirschner’s book, that single women are happier. All that and they get to have the bathroom all to themselves. Why do women think a man will make their lives happier and put their own happiness on hold pursuing a dream that requires another person….go get your own dream ladies!
